Hire Me as Your Ghostwriter

Your story deserves to be told. I can help you tell it.

Maybe you've had a novel living in your head for years. Maybe you have a rough draft that needs a professional hand. Maybe you have nothing more than a compelling idea and a burning desire to see it become a real book. Wherever you are in the process, I can take you the rest of the way.

I'm Jon Smith — a published author of over 50 books across fantasy, science fiction, satire, young adult, and children's fiction, translated into seven languages with over half a million copies sold. I'm also an award-winning screenwriter and a musical theatre lyricist and librettist, with productions staged across the UK.

And yes — I ghostwrite. Extensively, across more genres than I can list here, always under NDA, always with your vision and your voice as the only compass that matters.

What I bring to your book

Twenty years of professional writing experience means I've learned something most writers take a long time to discover: every story has an engine at its heart. My job is to find yours, reinforce it, and build everything else around it — compelling characters who hook readers from page one, dialogue that crackles, plots that deliver on every promise your genre makes.

I write new prose. I don't rework your drafts, I don't patch and polish — I write your book, from the ground up, in the voice and style you want. The result should feel like the book you always knew you had in you, not the book I would have written for myself.

How it works

Every project starts with a conversation. You bring me whatever you have — a logline, a concept, a rough outline, a full plan, or anything in between. Then:

  • I send you a detailed set of questions to help me understand your story, your characters, your world, and your vision
  • I read through any material you've already written
  • We talk — by message or video call, whichever you prefer — until I've genuinely extracted everything you want from the page
  • I build a chapter outline and present it back to you for approval
  • Once you're happy, I write the opening five hundred words or so, just to confirm I've captured your tone and style
  • Then I go away and I write your book

You're involved at every stage that matters. You're absent for all the hard parts.

Versatility is the job

I've written across genres that most authors spend an entire career in just one of. That range isn't accidental — it's the core skill. A ghostwriter who can only work in one mode isn't really serving the story, they're serving themselves. My job is to disappear into your world completely, whatever that world looks like.

Ready to talk?

If you'd like to find out whether I'm the right fit for your project, get in touch. There's no obligation — just a conversation about your story. Those are my favourite kind.
